BOSTON - Army West Point hosted (RV) Canisius in both programs' first Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) contest this season.
The Golden Griffins handled the Black Knights 3-1, holding them scoreless until 19:20 into the final frame when sophomore forward Ben Ivey potted one with an extra attacker out.
Junior forward Walter Zacher got the scoring started 3:19 into the opening period. 6:20 later, fellow junior forward Rhys Chiddenton tallied the game-winner and the matchup's only power play goal.
Senior forward Killian Kiecker-Olson scored his first of the season with under seven minutes remaining in the second period. The Andover, Minn., native extended the Golden Griffins' lead 3-0 at that point.
Senior netminder Chase Clark made 29 saves, allowed one goal in the effort and played all 60:00.
This is the second time that Canisius has beaten Army West Point by a score of 3-1 (Feb. 14, 2015).
The Black Knights play again in 10 days when they host Holy Cross for a two-game AHA series at Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y., with the first on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. ET.
As for the Golden Griffins, they swing right back into game action with a two-game series at ECAC Hockey's Colgate beginning on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. ET in Hamilton, N.Y.
