Penn State Wins 2025 AHA Women's Postseason Title

Nittany Lions claim third consecutive postseason title

March 8, 2025 - Penn State defeated Mercyhurst by a score of 4-1 in the 2025 AHA Women's Championship Game on Saturday. It's the third consecutive conference postseason title for the Nittany Lions, and Jeff Kampersal's squad will now gear up for the NCAA Tournament.

  • Penn State's Maddy Christian got the scoring started just 37 seconds into the game. Grace Outwater and Kendalll Butze assisted on the play.
  • Brianna Brooks gave the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead with a goal at 5:48 of the opening frame. Christian an Grace Tullock picked up assists on the goal.
  • Regina Metzler got the Lakers on the board with a goal at 16:24 of the 2nd. Marielle Parks and Jade Maisonneuve assisted on the play.
  • In the closing minutes of the 2nd, PSU's Katelyn Roberts made it a 3-1 game with a goal on an assist from Abby Stonehouse.
  • Brianna Brooks would score her second goal of the game at 18:13 of the 3rd to seal the win for the Nittany Lions. Leah Stecker and Tiffany Hill assisted on the play.
  • Penn State goaltender Katie DeSa made 13 saves in net for the Nittany Lions. Mercyhurst goaltender Magdalena Luggin made 25 saves in net for the Lakers.

F: Tessa Janecke, Penn State: Janecke scored three goals and dished out an assist for four points over three tournament games. She scored twice on Feb. 28 vs. RIT in the semifinal round.
F: Vanessa Upson, Mercyhurst: Upson collected six assists over four games in the tournament. She orchestrated back-to-back three assist games in the semifinal round on March 1-2 vs. Syracuse. 
F: Maddy Christian, Penn State: Christian scored a goal in all three tournament games for the Nittany Lions. She scored 37 seconds into the championship, and added an assist to give her a mulit-point game in Penn Stats' 4-1 win.
D: Makayla Javier, Mercyhurst: Javier scored two goals and dished out an assist for three points in the tournament. She scored twice on March 1 vs. Syracuse in the semifinal round.
D: Leah Stecker, Penn State: Stecker dished out two assists for PSU in the tournament, including one in the title game. She posted a +7 rating over three postseason games for the Nittany Lions.
G: Allie Kelley, Syracuse: Kelley turned aside 163-of-173 shots (.942 save percentage) in four tournament games. She posted three 40+ save efforts, including a 47-save shutout over Mercyhurst on Feb. 28 in the semifinal round.
