Canisius' Giampa, Bentley's Duerr, Hasley, and Sacred Heart's Tremblay Earn AHA Player of the Week Honors

Quartet recognized for performances during games of Nov. 19-24

BOSTON, Mass. - November 25, 2024 - Atlantic Hockey America is proud to honor four student-athletes as AHA Players of the Week for their outstanding on-ice performances in games of Nov. 19-24, 2024. This week's winners are Canisius sophomore Matteo Giampa (Forward), Bentley senior Sam Duerr (Defenseman), Bentley junior Connor Hasley (Goaltender), and Sacred Heart first year Jeremi Tremblay (Rookie).

AHA FORWARD OF THE WEEK
Matteo Giampa, So., F, Canisius
Canisius forward Matteo Giampa tallied three points on two goals and an assist over the weekend in two games at Mercyhurst. Giampa's clutch 3rd period play in Friday's contest led a late comeback for Canisius, as he scored a goal and dished out an assist in the final frame to lift the Golden Griffins to a 3-2 win. With Canisius trailing 2-1, Giampa recorded the primary helper on Michael Colella's goal at 7:39 of the 3rd period to tie the game. Giampa then scored the game-winning goal in the final seconds of regulation at 19:09 of the 3rd. The Virgil, Ontario native then opened the scoring in Saturday's contest with a goal at 5:56 of the 1st period. Giampa's three-point weekend continued his impressive play in conference games this season, as the sophomore forward leads Atlantic Hockey with 14 points (5g, 9a) in seven AHA games. This is Giampa's second AHA Forward of the Week honor this season, with the first coming on Oct. 28.

AHA DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Sam Duerr, Sr., D, Bentley

Senior defenseman Sam Duerr put together a well-rounded weekend to help lead Bentley to a sweep over Air Force. Duerr scored the game-winning goal of Saturday's contest, finding the back of the net at 6:46 of the 2nd period. It was his fouth goal of the season, and his second game-winner. In total, Duerr was on the ice for three of Bentley's four goals on the weekend, finishing the series with a team-best +3 rating while helping keep the Air Force offense off the scoreboard. He blocked two shots in Friday's 2-0 win, and fired five shots on goal in the two games. On the season, the Chicago, Ill. native is up eight points on four goals and four assists for the Falcons.

AHA GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Connor Hasley, Jr., G, Bentley

The Bentley Falcons swept Air Force this past weekend thanks to back-to-back shutouts from goaltender Connor Hasley. The junior netminder stopped a total of 50 shots on the weekend, turning aside 26 shots in Friday's 2-0 win and 24 shots in Saturday's 2-0 win. Hasley has now orchestrated shutouts in his last three starts, making 75 saves in that stretch. The junior goaltender has four shutouts on the season and seven in his career, both of which are Bentley program records. His four shutouts this season are tied for the national lead, and his 2.05 goals-against average ranks 20th nationally. In eight AHA games this season, Hasley boasts a save percentage of .922 and goals-against average of 1.83.

AHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jeremi Tremblay, Fr., F, Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart's Jeremi Tremblay helped the Pios take five of six points from RIT this past weekend, as the first year forward picked up points in both games. In Friday's contest, Tremblay assisted on Hunter Sansbury's game-winning goal at 17:31 of the 2nd period. Tremblay then found the back of the net at 1:52 of the 3rd period in Saturday's contest. It's the first series with points in back-to-back games for the Quebec City, Quebec native this season. Tremblay is now up to two goals and three assists for five points on the season.

Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) embarks on its first season in 2024-25 after the merger between the Atlantic Hockey Association and College Hockey America. The conference fields 11 men’s teams (American International College, Bentley University, Canisius University, The College of Holy Cross, Mercyhurst University, Niagara University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, the United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Military Academy), and six women’s teams (Lindenwood University, Mercyhurst University, Penn State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University, and Syracuse University).
