EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Army West Point was the first Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) program to compete in regular season action on Sunday since it shutout Vermont 3-0 on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The Black Knights traveled to independent LIU for the pair’s first official matchup of the 2025-26 regular season, but it is the second time the pair has matched up as they skated in an exhibition on Oct. 3.
The contest marked the first meeting between the Black Knights’ newest head coach,
Zach McKelvie and first-year LIU head coach
Brendan Riley, the son of former longtime Army West Point bench boss
Brian Riley, who retired at the end of last season.
Junior forward
Brent Keefer netted two goals for the visiting AHA program, and sophomore forward
Ben Ivey also registered a multi-point game (2A).
LIU tied the game with a power play goal in the final 1:30 of regulation to force overtime. The extra 5:00 was not enough to decide the matchup, and the contest went to overtime.
Sophomore netminder
JJ Cataldo made 38 saves in the game that helped push it into a shootout.
The shootout ultimately ended in a 1-0 win for the Sharks.
Bentley fell 2-3 to Hockey East’s UMass Lowell on the road.
