June 24, 2025 - Three Atlantic Hockey players were selected in the 2025 PWHL Draft on Tuesday night: Penn State's
Brianna Brooks (PWHL Vancouver), Mercyhurst's
Vanessa Upson (Minnesota Frost), and Penn State's
Lyndie Lobdell (PWHL Seattle).
Brianna Brooks - PWHL Vancouver (Round 4, Pick 32 Overall)
Brooks tallied 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists this past season in Hockey Valley. Two of her goals came on the power play, and she potted four game-winning goals for the Nittany Lions. In two seasons at Penn State, the Whitby, Ontario native appeared in 76 games, scored 25 goals, dished out 31 assists, collected 56 points, and posted a rating of +33. With the selection, Brooks becomes the first player in Penn State program history to be drafted into the PWHL. She is also the first Atlantic Hockey player to be drafted to the PWHL.
Vanessa Upson - Minnesota Frost (Round 5, Pick 38 Overall)
Upson played in 148 games for the Lakers from 2021-2025. She averaged nearly a point per game in that span, as she totaled 147 points on 65 goals and 82 assists. The 2024-25 season saw her set career-bests in assists (30), points (43), and shots (173). She potted four power play goals and three game-winners. The Stoney Creek, Ontario native was named to the 2024-25 All-AHA First Team, and was named AHA Forward of the Month in January and February. She was also named AHA Forward of the Week on Nov. 25 and Jan. 6.
Lyndie Lobdell - PWHL Seattle (Round 5, Pick 40 Overall)
Lobdell heads to Seattle after five seasons in a Nittany Lion uniform. She played in a total of 168 games at PSU, which is a program record. She also holds the PSU program record for points by a defenseman with 84 on 20 goals and 64 assists. She set a career-high in assists (17) and points (21) this past season, while leading the Nittany Lions in blocks (46) and plus/minus (+36). The Aurora, Ill. native was named to the 2024-25 All-AHA Second Team, and was named AHA Defenseman of the Month in October. She was also named AHA Defenseman of the Week on four occasions (Oct. 14, Oct. 28, Nov. 4, and Jan. 13).
