BOSTON - Nine Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) programs are set to take the ice this week, with eight of those teams matching up with inner conference opponents. MATCHUPS Friday/Saturday (Jan. 8/9) Sacred Heart at Niagara Army West Point at Mercyhurst Robert Morris at (RV) RIT (RV) Bentley at Air Force Saturday (Jan. 9) Merrimack at (RV) Holy Cross AROUND AHA Mercyhurst freshman goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel has made 30+ saves in three straight contests, the longest active streak of its kind in AHA. Army West Point sophomore forward Jack Ivey has led AHA since Dec. 1 with nine points (4G-5A) in six games played. Robert Morris’s 30 goals on the road this season are tied for the third-most among AHA programs. Niagara freshman forward Maxim Muranov leads all AHA freshmen through 17 games played, with eight goals. QUICK HITS Sacred Heart senior forward Felix Trudeau’s 16 goals are tied for the third-most in Division I. Air Force sophomore forward Nick Sajevic is tied for the AHA lead in multi-point contests with eight. Holy Cross has netted four or more goals in 10 games this season, the most in AHA. Operating at 92.3 percent, RIT’s penalty kill has been one of the best at home this season, which is tied for the seventh-highest in Division I. SAVINGS ACCOUNT Canisius sophomore goaltender Petter Wickström Stumer made his mark in between the pipes, recording 72 saves in a 4-3 win over Lindenwood, which set a new AHA and Canisius single-game record. The Stockholm, Sweden native became the first netminder in AHA history to reach the 70-save mark in a contest. Additionally, the Golden Griffins’ sophomore was the first Division I men’s goaltender to record 70+ in a game since the 2014-15 season. According to College Hockey Inc., the Stockholm, Sweden native’s 70+ save performance was the most in a regular-season game in 54 years, when Colorado College’s Ed Mio also made 72 in a Nov. 17, 1972 matchup with Wisconsin. HEDDEN IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION Air Force senior defenseman Chris Hedden enters the weekend leading all active Division I blueliners with 95 career points (32G-63A) in 132 games played. The Kalamazoo, Mich., native has the opportunity to become the only active defenseman in the nation to collect 100 career points. This season, Hedden is tied for the second-most points of his position group nationally, with 21 (10G-11A) through 20 contests.
