Syracuse, Penn State post wins in first conference games of 2026-27.

BOSTON – Syracuse improved to 3-0-0 for the first time in school history and Penn State secured its first win of the season as Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) women’s conference play opened with two league games and a non-league matchup on Friday.

Erie, Pa. – Junior Rylee McLeod (Grand Prairie, Alta.) scored twice in the second period, her first multiple-goal of her career, to lead Syracuse to a 3-1 road win at Mercyhurst and the program’s first ever 3-0-0 start.

Mercyhurst, playing in his AHA-leading 400th conference game all-time, scored a power-play goal late in the second to cut the lead to 2-1, but could not manage the equalizer. Syracuse goaltender Ava Drabyk (Saskatoon, Sask.) made eight third-period saves and the Orange added an empty netter to secure the win.

University Park, Pa. – Robert Morris scored twice in the first 5:47 to race to a 2-0 lead but Penn State rebounded with the next four goals and held on to post the No. 4/4 Nittany Lions’ first victory of the 2026-27 campaign, 5-3.

Penn State, which has won its conference opener five years in a row, got goals from five different players, including junior captain Grace Outwater (Picton, Ont.), who has scored in all three games this season.

Robert Morris closed the deficit to 4-3 on senior captain Alaina Giampietro’s (Strongsville, Ohio) second goal of the game, her second multi-goal effort in three games this season. The Colonials had a 5-on-3 power play late with a chance to tie, but freshman goaltender Morgan Stickney (St. Charles, Mo.), the AHA Rookie of the Week, held strong and Abby Stonehouse (Blenheim, Ont.) added an empty netter to seal the PSU win.

Rochester, N.Y. – After the two teams traded goals in the first period, Colgate reeled off three in a row in the second, building a 5-2 lead and leading to a 6-3 victory.

RIT fell to 0-3-0 on the season, all against ranked opponents. Senior Linda Rule (Pale, Latvia) and junior Brac Kelley (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) each had a goal and an assist for the Tigers.
