BOSTON – Niagara opened the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) men’s action for the weekend with a visit to Notre Dame, falling 3-1 in the Fighting Irish’s home opener.

Notre Dame, Ind. – Brothers Henry and Danny Nelson each scored a goal for Notre Dame, leading the Fighting Irish to a 3-1 win in their home opener against Niagara Thursday evening.

After the Nelson brothers gave the home team a 2-0 lead, Niagara’s Noah Hackett (Ponoka, Alta.) scored his first of the season on the power play to pull the Purple Eagles within one.

Niagara pushed for the equalizer and shots were even in the second and third periods, 17-17, but Notre Dame got an insurance tally into the empty net with 51 seconds remaining.

The two teams close out their series Friday night at Compton Family Ice Arena.
