Riga Inks Contract Extension, Will Lead Holy Cross Into 2029

Holy Cross and head men's ice hockey coach Bill Riga agreed to a restructured contract, keeping Riga at the helm of the program until 2029.

WORCESTER, Mass. - August 1, 2024 - Holy Cross men's ice hockey coach Bill Riga has agreed to a restructured contract that will keep him at the helm of the program until 2029. The announcement comes as Riga is preparing to lead the Crusaders in his fourth season in Worcester.

Riga took over a Holy Cross program that went just 4-12-0 in the 2020-21 season. But since his arrival, the Crusaders have shown steady improvement in his three-year tenure. The team totaled 12 wins in 2021-22, 17 wins in 2022-23, and 21 wins in 2023-24. The program has also seen improved results in Atlantic Hockey conference play under Riga, as the program won 10 conference games in 2021-22, 12 in 2022-23, and 13 in 2023-24.

This past season, Holy Cross finished in second place in the Atlantic Hockey regular season standings, and three Crusaders earned postseason honors. Liam McLinskey was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year and an American Hockey Coaches Association All-American, while Jason Grande and Jack Ricketts were named All-Atlantic Hockey.
