Holy Cross' Thomas Gale Named Semifinalist for Mike Richter Award

February 13, 2025 - Holy Cross goaltender Thomas Gale has been named a semifinalist for the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) Mike Richter Award for 2025, announced Thursday afternoon. Since 2014, the Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in men's NCAA Division I hockey.

Gale is one of ten semifinalists from the six NCAA Division I conferences. The semifinalists were chosen by a panel of voters consisting of coaches from each conference, as well as members of the national media, professional scouts, and representatives of USA Hockey.

Three finalists will be announced in early March, and the winner of this year’s Mike Richter Award will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis. For more details, check out the full HCA announcement HERE

Gale's Elite Numbers
On the season, Gale's 17 wins lead all Atlantic Hockey netminders and rank tied for fourth nationally. He boasts a .929 save percentage, which is tied for the AHA lead and tied for tenth nationally, as well as a 2.12 goals-against average, which is third in the AHA and 15th nationally. The Kirkland, Quebec native has been outstanding in AHA conference play, as his 1.74 goals-against average and .940 save percentage are both tops in the league. He also has two shutouts in conference play.

Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) embarks on its first season in 2024-25 after the merger between the Atlantic Hockey Association and College Hockey America. The conference fields 11 men’s teams (American International College, Bentley University, Canisius University, The College of Holy Cross, Mercyhurst University, Niagara University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, the United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Military Academy), and six women’s teams (Lindenwood University, Mercyhurst University, Penn State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University, and Syracuse University).
