BOSTON – Four players earned their first weekly awards of the season in this week’s Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) women’s players of the week honors for games played Oct. 26-31.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Forward of the Week: Abby Stonehouse, Penn State (Jr., Blenheim, Ont.)
Defenseman of the Week: Sofia Ljung, Mercyhurst (Sr., Hudiksvall, Sweden)
Goaltender of the Week: Maggie Hatch, Robert Morris (Sr., Cleveland Heights, Ohio)
Rookie of the Week: Maryn Broderick, Syracuse (D, Waterloo, Ont.)
FORWARD OF THE WEEK
Abby Stonehouse scored four of Penn State’s seven goals in the weekend sweep at RIT, including her first career hat trick on Saturday afternoon. Stonehouse led all AHA players in goals for the week and shared the lead in points.
Her goal Friday was the only goal of the game in a 1-0 Nittany Lion win. Saturday she scored at even strength, on the power play and while shorthanded for the hat trick. On the season her seven goals are one off the conference lead and she ranks second in the conference with 14 points in 10 games.
Stonehouse had won one prior AHA weekly award, as Rookie of the Week on Jan. 13, 2025.
DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Sofia Ljung had a point in each game and helped lead a Mercyhurst defense that posted back-to-back shutouts against Assumption, which had entered the weekend unbeaten. She had an assist Friday and scored the second goal of the game Saturday, while compiling six shots on goal and seven blocked shots (second among AHA players) on the weekend.
Ljung has two goals and two assists on the season, including points in three straight games and four of her last five. She is tied for second in the conference with 25 blocked shots.
Ljung has won three AHA weekly honors in her career.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Maggie Hatch’s first Goaltender of the Week honor of this season marks the sixth of her career. She led the Colonials to their first conference win of the season, a 4-0 shutout at Lindenwood on Thursday. Hatch made 30 saves in her 10th career shutout, which leads all active AHA goaltenders and ranks seventh nationally.
Hatch followed her shutout by stopping 25-of-27 shots on Friday, posting a .965 save percentage for the week that led all AHA goaltenders who played multiple games. She had her first career assist during the week as well.
Hatch is 4-7-0 on the season with a 2.74 goals-against average and an .899 save percentage. She leads all AHA goaltenders in games played (11) and minutes played (656:10).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Maryn Broderick earned AHA Rookie of the Week for the first time after scoring the opening goal in Syracuse’s 4-1 Friday win against Delaware. She led all skaters with nine shots in that game, a personal season high, and shared the AHA lead with 13 shots on the week. She added four blocked shots and a +1 rating in the Orange’s two games.
Broderick’s eight points (two goals, six assists) through 10 games lead Syracuse defensemen and are tied with Penn State’s Megan Hosman (Ann Arbor, Mich.) for the lead among AHA rookie blueliners. Broderick has at least a point in six of 10 games and has a +5 rating, with a minus rating in only one game all season.
