BOSTON - Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) announced its January Players of the Month on Wednesday. Four programs were represented with three first-time honorees. PLAYERS OF THE MONTH Forward: Jake Black, SR, Bentley (Pomfret, Conn.) Defenseman: FJ Buteau, FR, Canisius (Montreal, Quebec) Goaltender: Teagan Kendrick, FR, Sacred Heart (St. Albert, Alberta) Rookie: Evan Konyen, F, RIT (Newmarket, Ontario) FORWARD OF THE MONTH Black collected his first-ever AHA monthly honor after he led all of Division I in January with 17 points (9G-8A) in 10 games played. The Pomfret, Conn. native also led the nation last month with nine goals, including two power play goals, one shorthanded and two of which were game-winners. The Falcons’ forward also netted his first career hat trick in a 5-0 win on Jan. 30 at Robert Morris. Additionally, in Black’s first 71 career games, he tallied 22 points. Black is on an active nine-game point streak. DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH Buteau earned an AHA monthly award for the first time in his collegiate career after he recorded seven points (2G-5A) in seven games during January. The Montreal, Quebec native potted his first career game-winner in a 5-0 victory at Mercyhurst on Jan. 24. The freshman blueliner also scored twice on the man advantage to begin 2026. Between Jan. 16-24, Buteau had a four-game point streak. GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH For a second consecutive month, Kendrick collected monthly honors from the conference. The St. Albert, Alberta native appeared in nine games last month and posted a 5-3-1 record, a 2.65 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. Kendrick led all of Division I last month with 301 saves, the only netminder in the nation with 300+ in a single month this season. ROOKIE OF THE MONTH Last month, among AHA freshmen, Konyen tied for the lead in goals (5) and finished second in points with nine (5G-4A) through 10 games. Konyen netted two game-winning goals in January, including one to upset then-No. 8/9 Penn State on Jan. 3, 2026.
